The only problem with finding a used one is that I probably won't be able to find a used GTI because the mark 6 just came out and I def. do not want a mark 5.

Yea, in that case you may have to buy used then.

For me it's not worth spending 6k extra for the car new just to lose that value when you drive it off the lot when you could literally buy something that's 2 months old with 1-2k on the ticker and save 6k or more depending on how expensive the car is new. The tibby was new and cost around 20k and was only worth around 15 once I started driving it. You also usually get a longer warranty than a factory one when buying used too so buying new, you can waste money and get a shorter warranty merely for just getting the proud feeling or whatever of getting a brand new one. The only real advantage of buying new is you have the option to lease which is great if you only plan to keep it for a few years and not mod it, then you can get really cheap payments.

While I agree there are a lot of great deals on used cars...I disagree that the only advantage to buying new is the option to lease...which you can do with a used car also...

Buying used I think has a lot to do with what you're buying. Mercedes for example, the warranty available, even on the CPO'd cars, is junk. BMW on the other hand will give you a 100,000 mile warranty on a CPO, that's spectacular.

It all depends on what you're looking for. Personally the only cars I would buy used would be fairly high end luxury cars. I would never buy any kind of sports car used because you know the previous owner, and god knows how many other people in-between, romped on it. Even if the PO didn't, James you have worked at dealerships, you know the kind of things that happen to trade ins. Shit, go behind any Germain dealership and you are sure to see the rubber on the ground from them messing around with the cars. God only knows what else they do with them.

I like my car rolling off a truck with the plastic still on it still. Pristine, brand new, and untouched by idiots...until me of course.

David, most cars offer a higher warranty with CPO, mine for example is 100k miles, so is toyota, honda, bmw etc. The other thing is 99% of cars that are brought off the truck are beat on before you buy them new, I used to sell them and I was one of the people that did it, besides it doesn't matter who does it to them, you or the person before you, it's going to happen. Even if it's brought off the truck and detailed and gassed up I guarantee it's still beat one. Ask me how I know. I drove a brand new M6 to gas it up one time and beat the fuck out of it, did the same thing with a Z06, it happens EVERY time whether it was me or not.

All of you made valid points about buying used or new, but for me it will be a new car. I do agree though that you can save a ton of money with buying a 1 or 2 year old car, especially with cars like 750i's and S550's.

Id have to say if a new car is important to you you can get one with under 5 miles on it. Not all of them are beat on. I wouldnt want one that sat on the lot a while just baking in the sun either.

Just because it's wrong doesn't mean people don't do it.

And now for no reason, here's a picture of a cat playing a keyboard...
