What are you interested in knowing? Thats a very broad statement to a guy who grew up around these. I can tell you I want a Westfalia with an STI engine swap.

This should get you started:

Just the basic things you should know BEFORE you purchase one. What to look for in a used one, what to avoid, etc...

They are awesome because they have one in LOST, so if you buy one you have to put a Dharma Initiative sticker on it.

Yea...there are tons of things out there to waste money on but a classic VW bus, on top of being fucking awesome, is an icon of a movement in history. I think it would be pretty cool to have one, but more-so, I think the restoration process would be very interesting.

If you have the money for it, otherwise, you can find good deals in already restored pieces that look very nice and are reliable. You can spend 100K and you will never see that money again. Pass that cost to the sucker that restored it.

The vans were made popular by hippies so every time I see one thats what I associate with drivers, cops do the same thing. I heard a big part of the restoration is the glass windows and roof. They wont go more than 60mph with wind and down a hill.
